BUT CITY OFFICIALS WANT TO TRANSFORM IT INTO A SPACE CONNECTING THE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT, TO THE BANKS. THE PLAN WAS DEVELOPED BY THE CINCINNATI CHAMBER, KZF DESIGN AND WSP. PROJECT LEADERS SAY, FORT WASHINGTON WAY WAS ACTUALLY BUILT TO EVENTUALLY HOLD DECKS. NOW, THEY WANT TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. THE CAPS WOULD CREATE A SPACE FOR PEOPLE TO GATHER, THINK BENGALS WATCH PARTIES EVENT SPACES SOCCER FIELDS. AND, IT WOULD OFFER EASIER ACCESS TO THE RIVERFRONT. TO FUND THE PROJECT THE CITY AND COUNTY ARE WORKING TO GET A PLANNING GRANT FROM THE RECONNECTING COMMUNITIES PILOT PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM WAS CREATED UNDER THE BIPARTISAN INFRASTRUCTURE LAW TO RECONNECT COMMUNITIES THAT HAVE BEEN CUT OFF BY HIGHWAY INVESTMENTS. City officials want to transform Fort Washington Way into a space connecting the Central Business District to The Banks.The plan was developed by the Cincinnati Chamber, KZF Design and WSP.Project leaders say, Fort Washington Way was actually built to eventually hold decks.Now, they want to make it happen.The caps would create a space for people to gather for things like Bengals watch parties, event spaces and soccer fields.They say it would also offer easier access to the riverfront.To fund the project, the city and county are working to get a planning grant from the reconnecting communities pilot program.The program was created under the bipartisan infrastructure law to reconnect communities that have been cut off by highway investments.
