With temperatures reaching the mid-70s in Billings, it makes for great walking or biking weather in honor of National Walk and Bike to School Day. The day is not just for kids heading to school; anyone can take part in making their commute by talking or riding a bike.

National Today says the day promotes exercise and movement for kids and adults who participate. It also shows the importance of safe pedestrian pathways in local communities. As the day grows with each passing year, it shows that more people are willing to put in the time to get active to start and end their day. Take part in this day that promotes healthy living for families and individuals. It’s also a great opportunity to enjoy the warm weather before cooler temperatures set in.

For over two decades, the National Center for Safe Routes to School has worked to create safer, walkable neighborhoods for others to use and enjoy. They are also responsible for coordinating Walk, Bike, and Roll to school days in May and October. These days are designed to encourage families to celebrate the benefits of living an active lifestyle. It also helps to increase leader commitment in communities to have visibility and traffic safety.

Some schools in Montana are registered for Walk and Bike to School Day, so every student has a chance to participate. You don’t have to be registered for the event to be able to participate; try coordinating your own group to commute to school or work. Bring a friend along, so they have a chance to get a little exercise too and be a part of the group.

If you choose to use your bike, add cute decorations to it, like threading LED lights, flowers (either fake or real), and other cute additions! Above all, be sure to get outside and move for a day that promotes healthy living.
