Update: Downed Wires Cleared, Road Reopened in West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A downed utility wire had the West Hartford Police Department warning motorists and pedestrians to avoid a section of Asylum Avenue Wednesday morning.

By Wednesday afternoon, though, the area was cleared and the road reopened, police said in a Twitter post at about 1:54 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the WHPD's Twitter feed, the wire was down near Foxcroft Road.

As a result, Asylum Avenue was temporarily closed in both directions between North Quaker Land and Steele Road, police said in an alert posted at 7:42 a.m. Wednesday.

"Please seek alternate routes through the area and thank you for your patience while we work to make the area safe for motorists and pedestrians," the WHPD wrote on social media at the time.

The alert didn't indicate why the wire was down, but the area did experience rain and wind Wednesday morning.
