Marshall County Committees to Form for Voice on U.S. 31, U.S. 30 Corridor Projects

Committees are forming in Marshall County so the county has a voice in PEL studies being conducted for future INDOT planning along the U.S. 30 and U.S. 31 corridors.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is beginning Planning and Environmental Linkage (PEL) studies in these corridors and officials are looking for input from residents in this process in order to find long-term solutions for these areas.

Marshall County Commission President Kevin Overmyer said he asked Plan Director Ty Adley to the commissioners meeting Monday morning to discuss forming a committee to look at planning on U.S. 31 from State Road 10 north to U.S. 30.  The committee members would look at bridges and interchanges along that route. Adley said he would serve on that committee.

Adley commented, “A study like this was done back in 2014 when they changed it to a freeway-style on U.S. 31. So for this two-year study on U.S. 30 and U.S. 31, it’s a great opportunity for us to advocate again and take another look at what that study generated previously and what has changed for Marshall County in this region so we can adequately and best serve our members of the community, so we have an opportunity to present what we think would be best fit for Marshall County and its residents.”

Commissioner Overmyer said he would like to serve.  Representatives along that stretch of U.S. 31 will be asked to have input on that committee, as well as the Plymouth Community School Corporation and the Argos Community School Corporation.

The commissioners unanimously approved the formation of the committee that would eventually make a recommendation to the commissioners about plans.  Upcoming meeting dates will be decided in the near future.

Additionally, Commissioner Michael Burroughs said a U.S. 30 committee in Marshall County is forming and he is on that committee.  Burroughs said a meeting will be held on Monday, October 10 at 1 p.m. ET in the second floor meeting room (Room 203) in the Marshall County Building at 112 W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth where several representatives in Marshall County, Plymouth, Bourbon and Bremen have been invited to give input.

The commissioners also approved the formation of the U.S. 30 committee from the Kosciusko County line to the Starke County line.
