State girls, boys soccer rankings: Section V adds new No. 1 in Class AA

State soccer rankings for the new week were released on Tuesday and Section V can boast of a new No. 1

The Penfield girls extended their win streak to 10 games with three victories last week and vaulted to the top of the Class AA poll, issued weekly by the New York State Sports Writers Association.

Here’s how all the Section V teams fared in the new polls, released on Tuesday.

Girls soccer

Class AA

The Penfield girls (10-1-0) are at the top of the Class AA state rankings, making a huge jump from No. 9 last week. Also in AA, Webster Schroeder (8-2-2) made the jump to No. 14 from the 19th spot last week.

Class A

Pittsford Mendon (9-0-2) moves to No. 6 from No. 7 and Spencerport (7-1-2) jumps two sports to No. 10 (from No. 12). Greece Athena (7-3-1) remains at No. 17 and Honeoye Falls-Lima (8-2-2) joins the rankings at No. 20.

Class B

Palmyra-Macedon (11-1-1) joins the big jumpers, moving into the No. 2 spot after sitting at No. 5 last week. Haverling (11-0-0) moves to No. 4 from No. 8 while Batavia (6-1-3) falls to No. 24 (from 22) and Hornell (9-2-0) remains tied in the 25th spot.

Class C

Byron-Bergen (12-0-0) holds steady at the No. 2 spot and the same goes for Gananda (11-0-0) at No. 5. 

Geneseo (10-1-0) falls one spot from No. 6 to No. 7 and Addison (10-1-0) jumps to No. 13 from the No. 15 spot followed by No. 15 Marion (10-2-0), No. 16 Wheatland-Chili (10-2-2) and No. 18 Marcus Whitman (11-0-1), which was No. 21 last week.

Class D

Fillmore (12-0-0) remains at No. 2 and Northstar (11-1-0) stays at No. 4 while Genesee Valley/Belfast (8-3-1) moves up a spot to No. 12 from No. 13 last week.

Boys soccer

Class AA

Fairport (10-1-0) moves up to No. 6 from No. 7 last week and McQuaid (9-0-2) remains at No. 13.

Class A

Wayne (11-0-0) remains at No. 4 and Pittsford Sutherland (8-2-1) moves up to No. 19 after being tied in the No. 20 spot last week with Webster Thomas, which fell out of the rankings this week.

Alex Cook and Wayne remain undefeated and ranked No. 4 in Class A.

Class B

Livonia (11-1-0) moves to No. 2 from No. 3 but that was before its loss to Hornell on Monday night. Bishop Kearney/Chesterton (11-0-0) remains level at No. 12.

Class C

Avon (12-0-0) remains at No. 1 this week and Pavilion/York (10-2-0) jumps to No. 11 after being No. 19 last week. Byron-Bergen/Elba (9-3-0) joins the rankings this week at No. 19.

Class D

Fillmore (11-0-0) remains in the No. 2 spot this week, Keshequa (10-2-0) is at No. 9 and Naples (11-1-0) remains at No. 15.
