Health Inspections: Violations temporarily close 5 restaurants from Boca Raton to Singer Island

Thirty-two restaurants in Palm Beach County failed to meet health and safety standards last week, resulting in 27 follow-up inspections and five temporary closures.

In Palm Beach County, Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation reported 601 violations during 178 recent restaurant inspections. Inspectors labeled 193 violations as high priority, 177 violations as intermediate priority and 231 violations as basic priority.

Nine restaurants in Palm Beach County violated pest standards. Inspectors found 18 restaurants did not follow good handwashing and hygienic practices. The department also handed out 74 violations in the county for food protection and cross-contamination.

Inspectors in Palm Beach County found 47 restaurants with two or more high-priority violations and 51 restaurants with five or more total violations.

Inspections among Palm Beach County restaurants with the most violations: Estacao Do Pao Bakery And Restaurant, 23269 State Rd 7 Ste 105 106 107, was cited Sept. 26 with 17 total violations. Estacao Do Pao Bakery And Restaurant, 23269 State Rd 7 Ste 105 106 107, was cited Sept. 27 with three total violations.

Palm Beach County restaurants temporarily closed

In Boca Raton:

  • Estacao Do Pao Bakery And Restaurant, 23269 State Road 7, was closed Sept. 26 after inspectors reported 11 high-priority violations, three intermediate-priority violations and three basic violations. The restaurant quickly fixed all the violations and reopened the same day.

In Delray Beach:

  • Excell Restaurant, 1041 S. Congress Ave., was closed Sept. 26 after inspectors reported two high-priority violations and four basic violations. The restaurant corrected all the violations and reopened the next day.
  • Little Caesars, 1449 S. Congress Ave., was closed Sept. 26 after inspectors reported four high-priority violations, two intermediate-priority violations and six basic violations. The restaurant quickly corrected all the violations and reopened the same day.
  • Taqueria Huetamo, 1499 S. Congress Ave., was closed Sept. 27 after inspectors reported three high-priority violations and four basic violations. The eatery quick made the necessary corrections and reopened the same day.

In Singer Island:

  • Two Drunken Goats, 2509 N. Ocean Drive, was closed Sept. 29 after inspectors reported four high-priority violations, one intermediate-priority violation and six basic violations. Restaurant's website on Tuesday, Oct. 4 said they were still closed.
Two Drunken Goats on Singer Island was one of five Palm Beach County restaurants that were closed following a regular health inspection. Two Drunken Goats was ordered closed on Sept. 29 and on Tuesday, Oct. 4 was still closed according to their website. The other four eateries made the necessary corrections and quickly reopened.

  • Estacao Do Pao Bakery And Restaurant, 23269 State Road 7, was cited Sept. 26 with three pest violations among 17 total violations and on Sept. 27 with three pest violations.
  • Flamingo Grill, 501 E. Camino Real, was cited Sept. 30 with one pest violation among two total violations.

In Delray Beach:

  • Excell Restaurant, 1041 S. Congress Ave., was cited Sept. 26 with three pest violations among six total violations.
  • Little Caesars, 1449 S. Congress Ave., was cited Sept. 26 with three pest violations among 12 total violations and on Sept. 27 with two pest violations among six total violations.

In Singer Island:

In West Palm Beach:

  • Grease, 213 Clematis St., was cited Sept. 27 with one pest violation among five total violations.
  • Taco Bell, 1237 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd., was cited Sept. 30 with one pest violation among two total violations.
  • Taj Mahal Indian Cuisine, 4778 Okeechobee Blvd., was cited Sept. 27 with one pest violation among 14 total violations.

Inspections are reported through the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation, which says each inspection is a snapshot and restaurants could have more or fewer violations on other days. High-priority violations are those that could cause food poisoning or injury, such as problems with cooking, cooling and handwashing. Intermediate violations are those that could lead to risk factors that could contribute to food poisoning or injury, such as problems with personnel training. Basic violations are those that violate best practices.
