Des Moines’ ‘Pirate Potter House’ is a free haunted house for all ages
It's spooky season, and there's a place in Des Moines for Muggles to celebrate the occasion. And this year, mateys and scallywags are part of the fun, too!
KCCI first introduced viewers to the Selbys last year, when we took you to their "Harry Potter" themed house on the east side of town.
Last fall, they asked their Facebook followers what they'd like to see in 2022. More "Harry Potter" or Pirates?
It was a split decision, so this Halloween, the Selbys have both!
Sandy Selby tells us there's something for all ages, and it's not too scary, even for the smallest visitors.
"There are some kids that are scared and obviously at night things change a little bit, you know the lights come on, the fog rolls in. We keep them to a minimum if there's little kids around," Selby said.
Last year, after our story aired here on KCCI, the Selbys added a red kettle to accept donations for the Salvation Army because they had such a big increase in foot traffic.
They ended up raising more than $3,500; this year, the goal is to raise $5,000.
You can find the Pirate Potter House at 3720 Brook Ridge Court in Des Moines.
