SYRACUSE N.Y. — Productions of “How to Dance in Ohio” have been cut short due to numerous COVID cases in the company, Syracuse Stage announced Tuesday.
This comes after weekend showings of the production were canceled during the first weekend of October as COVID cases spiked.
“Despite regular testing, stringent adherence to Actors Equity Association’s COVID protocols, and an above-standard number of understudies in place, proceeding with performances has become impossible with the number of positive cases,” the company said in a statement.
The production was originally scheduled to play through Sunday, October 9.
Syracuse Stage will directly contact all ticketholders about the cancellation, and automatic refunds will be issued.

Ticketholders will receive an email when the refund is processed, according to Syracuse Stage.
“Even with understudies and continual attempts by the production team to find a way forward, we have run out of viable options to proceed,” said Managing Director Jill Anderson. “We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this news brings to the ‘Ohio’ team and patrons.”
Plans for future productions at locations outside of Syracuse will be announced at a later date.
The company intends to continue with live performances through the remainder of the season with the Cold Read Festival of New Plays on October 18 to October 23.
