Abilene woman sentenced 180 days in jail for misdemeanor at Jan. 6 Capitol breach

A District of Columbia judge sentenced an Abilene woman to 180 days in jail for resisting law enforcement efforts to have her clear the U.S. Capitol grounds after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.

Micki Larson-Olson, 53, was sentenced Friday by Judge Michael O'Keefe of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia after a jury found her guilty a day earlier of a misdemeanor charge, the release said.

The government presented evidence that on the day of the breach, Metropolitan Police Department officers assisting the U.S. Capitol Police in clearing the grounds and people on scaffolding on the west side of the Capitol approached Larson-Olson at about 5:15 p.m., the release said.

The defendant "was dressed in a Captain America costume and holding two flags in the air. Officers repeatedly asked her to leave. She refused, lowering herself down and holding onto the scaffolding with her arms and legs, actively resisting the officers’ orders," the release said.

She also swore at officers and called them “traitors." Six officers carried her from the scaffolding area as she screamed and fought them, the release said.

Larson-Olson was booked into a District of Columbia Department of Corrections facility on Friday, according to online inmate records.

The case was prosecuted by the Superior Court Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. This was the first trial of a Jan. 6-related case in the Superior Court.

The case was investigated by the Criminal Investigations Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Columbia.

In the 20 months since Jan. 6, 2021, more than 870 individuals have been arrested in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol. The investigation remains ongoing, the release said.
