Ten more COVID-19-related deaths reported in W.Va.; active virus cases continue decline

Ten more COVID-19-related deaths were reported in West Virginia as active virus cases continued to fall and were heading toward the 1,000 mark.

West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources’ officials confirmed the following deaths on Tuesday in a news release:

  • a 57-year-old man from Wood County
  • a 68-year-old woman from Raleigh County
  • a 78-year-old man from Cabell County
  • a 71-year -old woman from Cabell County
  • a 65-year-old man from McDowell County
  • a 42-year-old man from Taylor County
  • an 85-year-old man from Kanawha County
  • a 71-year-old man from Summers County
  • a 66-year-old man from Upshur County
  • a 56-year-old woman from Nicholas County

West Virginia’s pandemic death total is now at 7,436.

Active virus numbers were at 1,028 – down 97 from the previous report. DHHR officials also reported 274 new virus cases since the last update.

Hospitalizations were at 197 (up one) with 30 in intensive care (up three) and 12 on a ventilator (up three). Recoveries were at 593,056.

The state’s cumulative test rate was at 8.57%, up slightly from 8.56%, while the daily positive test rate was at 9.02%, up slightly from 9.07%.

On the alert map, West Virginia counties continue to shift toward green, with 48 (five more than the previous version) now in that color. Seven counties were in yellow.
