A former Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) trooper who was in court for a sentencing hearing last week has been reported missing.

The Columbia Police Department says Harvey Briggs, 54, was last seen Saturday in the Sunnyside area. Police say Briggs made "concerning statements" to his family prior to his leaving. They haven't heard from him since.

Briggs received a six-month probation sentence for a misdemeanor assault conviction on a charge that he pulled the face mask off a protester during the COVID-19 pandemic in August 2020. The terms of Briggs’ probation require him to receive permission from his probation officer to leave the county where he lives.

After his sentencing, Briggs had “appeared upset about his probation and verbally expressed his displeasure to the (probation) officer,” said Tennessee Department of Correction spokesperson Dorinda Carter.

He is 5'11" tall and weighs approximately 198 pounds. He has gray hair and blue eyes. Police say he was last seen driving his black 2015 Ford Fusion with TN plate 156BHBD.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call Columbia Police at (931) 388-2727, Maury County Crime stoppers at (931) 381-4900, or Columbia Police SAFE Tip Email to SafeTips@ColumbiaTN.Com.
