COVID-19: Taylor County reports 18 cases Monday; fewer cases too in Brown County

The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District on Monday reported 18 new cases of COVID-19, six of which were confirmed via polymerase chain reaction tests.

Active cases Monday totaled 540 (106 PCR cases and 434 based on antigen tests), down from 787 a week ago.

Brown County cases decline fourth week in row

BROWNWOOD – Brown County health officials Friday reported one death linked to COVID-19 and 22 new cases for the seven previous days, compared to 42 new cases the previous week.

It was the fourth week in a row for a decline in new cases. The peak during this latest surge that started in early summer was 189 weekly cases on Aug. 5.

No patients were hospitalized for COVID-19 as of Friday.

The percentage of county residents aged 6 months and older who are fully vaccinated is 42.29%, compared to 42.28% from the previous report.

The current totals for COVID-19 testing in Brown County as of Friday were:

  • Total positive: 13,228
  • Total negative: 10,617
  • Cases confirmed by PCR test: 5,109
  • Cases confirmed by antigen test: 8,119
  • Deaths: 258
  • Average age of deceased: 67
