Massachusetts is home to 1 of the best apple orchards in America, according to USA Today

New England has three of the best apple orchards in America and Massachusetts is home to one of them, according to USA Today readers.

The publication released a list of the best apple orchards on Friday as part of its 2022 “10Best Reader’s Choice Awards”, and Libby & Son U-Picks in Limerick, Maine, ranked 6th, Jaswell’s Farm in Smithfield, R.I., ranked 9th, and Tougas Family Farm in Northborough ranked 10th.

This second-generation fruit farm in Massachusetts, known as Tougas Family Farm in Northborough, guests can choose from more than 30 varieties of apples and enjoy baked goods from their Farm Kitchen out back.

Rhode Island’s Jaswell’s Farm is located about 30 miles outside of Providence in “Apple Valley,” wrote USA Today, and walk-ins are welcome but reservations are recommended. The Jaswell family thanks its guests for choosing their “family-friendly and farm-fresh” orchard.

At Libby & Son U-Picks in Maine, guests enjoy the live music during apple picking season, which typically runs from mid-August to the end of October.

“The United States’ first apple orchard was planted in 1625 near Boston’s Beacon Hill,” wrote USA Today. “Now there are more than 5,000 apple growers across the U.S.”

The No. 1 apple orchard in America is Milburn Orchards in Elkton, Md.
