It's been two years since 21-year-old Jacob "Jake" Lemire was shot and killed while driving near North Davis Street in Providence.

His mother, Hollie, said there's not a day that goes by where she doesn't wonder who's responsible for his death.

"He was happy, always happy, always smiling, always helping other people," she told NBC 10 News. "He would've given one of his friends the shirt off his back. He died because he got in the car to buy his friend something to eat."

Hollie said Jake and his friend were shot in the back.

Jake died on the way to the hospital.

His friend survived.

Providence police said Sunday there's no update to the case.

"I just live in limbo. It's like when, when will it end?" Hollie said.

Hollie's homemade memorial, which was stolen and destroyed in the past, stands as a reminder that there are still unanswered questions.

"I put 730 candles here, one for every day that he's been gone," she told NBC 10 News.

She said she didn't realize how many friends Jake had until after he died.

"I didn't know until he died, how many people my son knew," she said. "Over 250 people came to his funeral."

Hollie said she's in pain every day knowing that the person responsible has not been charged.

"Please lock up the people who are killing our children," she said.
