The 24th annual Pasadena Latino Heritage Parade and Festival showcased Latino history and culture on Saturday, Oct. 1, in front of residents from Pasadena and surrounding communities took it all in.

Themed  “De Colores // An Array of Colors,” the event — sponsored by the city of Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, and the Pasadena Latino Heritage Committee — was designed to exhibit diversity in the Latino culture.

More than 2,000 participants and spectators were expected to attend the parade and festival. The parade began at Los Robles Avenue and Prescott Street, headed south on Los Robles and ended at Villa Parke Community Center, 363 E. Villa Street, where a festival featuring live entertainment by local groups and headliner La Sonora Dinamita with Vilma Diaz, educational booths, free activities for children, and food were on tap.

The parade’s Grand Marshal was Liliana Pérez, cultural affairs director for the Los Angeles Chargers and the Community Grand Marshal was Yoland Trevino, founder and executive director of Pasadena/Altadena Coalition of Transformative Leaders (PACTL).

The event coincided with National Hispanic Heritage Month.

earlier in the month, the city celebrated the independence of 18 Latin American countries at Villa Parke Community Center, where Latina American culture was alive and well in the city’s Fiestas Patrias.

There were vibrant colors, a parade of flogs, stuff for the children and live music.

And that meant dancing, traditional and ballet folklórico. And there was “El Grito,” a reenactment of the historic battle cry that marked the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence. That was led by the Mariachi.
