October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Queens is already showing support.

An event called “Cancer, Strike for a Cure” was held at the Jib Lanes Bowling Alley in Queens Saturday to fundraise and bring awareness to breast cancer — in partnership with the NYPD and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

NY1’s Ruschell Boone was in attendance and honored at the event. Boone was recently diagnosed with early stage pancreatic cancer.

She wanted to share the message to everyone to make sure they know the importance of receiving routine mammograms.

“If something doesn’t feel right, if something is bothering you, it doesn’t hurt to go to the doctor,” she said. “Unfortunately I am battling cancer but the battle is alright because I have a chance at living and that’s what makes me happy.”
