Friday morning, City of Mobile Public Works team members placed barricades in Cooper Riverside Park to cordon off an approximately 20-foot area above the bulkheads. As a precaution, this area will remain closed to the public for the foreseeable future as needed repairs are made.

During a recent condition survey of the bulkheads and relieving platforms, damage and defects were observed that could limit the capacities of some structural components.

To prevent a potential safety hazard for park patrons, the City of Mobile is restricting access to this area until repairs can be made as part of the ongoing Mobile Riverfront Redevelopment Project.

Only the small portion of Cooper Riverside Park over the bulkheads and seawalls will be closed to the public. The majority of the park will remain open for events and everyday use.
