BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — Police say a man in Alabama is facing charges after a 2-year-old boy died in a hot car Tuesday afternoon.
The child was later identified as Ian Wiesman. Two warrants were issued for the boy's grandfather, William Weisman. The Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey said the warrants were for "reckless acts and/or criminally negligent acts."
Weisman, 56, was booked into Blount County jail Wednesday evening on a manslaughter charge. His bond was set at $30,000.
The Blount County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened outside Kid's Campus, a daycare, on State Highway 75. The sheriff's office said the boy was not under the supervision of the daycare facility.
Casey said an affidavit indicates the boy was picked up by his grandfather Tuesday morning and Weisman drove to his job. The boy was reportedly left inside his grandfather's truck.
Casey said Weisman reportedly returned to his truck on three different occasions, including driving the the truck, but believed he dropped the boy off at daycare. According to the affidavit, the car seat was facing the front, not the rear.
As a result of his behavior and his acts, the child died from prolonged exposure from heat," said Casey.
The sheriff's office said family members found the boy just after 3:00 p.m.
