Three separate homicides overnight in Nashville, all from shootings

Staff report

There were three separate homicides over the weekend, all of which were shootings, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Two of the shootings were in the Hermitage area. The third was near Nissan Stadium, according to police.

Police identified Nelson Soto, 31, as the victim in one of the Hermitage area shootings, which occurred on Woodland Pointe Drive. Police found Soto with multiple gunshot wounds in the driver's seat of a car, a news release said.

A woman in the passenger's seat was also shot, but with non-life threatening injuries, according to police. First responders transported the woman to a hospital.

The incident near Nissan Stadium involved a security guard shooting an unidentified man in the parking lot of 7-Eleven. First responders brought the man to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he died, according to police.

The security guard who shot the man said she was acting out of self-defense. The man had come into the store and asked to leave. However, he later returned to the property and was once again asked to leave. The man threatened to take the security guard's gun and walked toward her. The security guard then withdrew her gun and fired at him, according to police.

All three happened Saturday night or early Sunday morning. All three victims were male.
