In honor of National Rescue Dog Day, Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) is waiving adoption fees for all pets from Friday, May 20 through Sunday, May 22. MACC reports that there are more than 50 dogs are currently available for adoption at the shelter, with 12 other available dogs currently residing in foster homes. National Rescue Dog Day is recognized every year to bring awareness to the countless dogs in shelters around the country waiting for their adoptive family. According to the ASPCA, 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters every year. In 2021, 4,126 animals entered MACC’s shelter.

All available pets are posted online.

Those who are interested in adopting a pet who is in foster care can email foster.macc@nashville.gov. Local nonprofit group Friends of MACC will also feature several dogs available through MACC at an event Saturday, May 21. For details on their event, visit the Friends of MACC social media pages.

MACC encourages the public to consider caring for a foster pet in their home. MACC provides food, equipment, medication and support foster volunteers would need to house a pet. Knowledge and advice can be provided to the foster volunteer through MACC’s foster coordinator. The pet would stay with the volunteer until an adoptive family comes forward, transferring the pet to their new family.

Those interested in becoming a foster volunteer can email foster.macc@nashville.gov or apply to join the “Foster Roster” at by filling out the application.
