CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — The Professional Firefighters of West Virginia organization kicked off its annual convention Thursday morning.
The event began with a bell-ringing ceremony to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
About 60 firefighters from 21 local union departments from around the state came together to discuss issues such as pensions, firefighter health and safety and equipment.
Myron Boggess, president of the group, said it was important for firefighters to gather and “get our guys educated on how important our job is and what it is to be safe and not only to be safe and protect our communities that we protect.”
The event runs through Saturday.
