Wisconsin COVID-19 case numbers fall for second day in a row

MADISON (WLUK) -- New COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin have fallen for a second straight day.

The state Department of Health Services reported the seven-day average of new cases at 2,088 in its latest daily report. That is down from 2,198 on Sunday, but up from 316 on March 24.

It's the first time the seven-day average has gone down on back-to-back days since May 1-2.

DHS reported 2,192 new cases on Tuesday.

Test positivity fell to a seven-day average of 13.6%, its lowest level since last Wednesday.


One new death was reported on Tuesday. The seven-day average remained at two.


Since the pandemic began, Wisconsin has seen nearly 1.5 million confirmed cases and 12,959 deaths.

As of Wednesday, 64.4% of state residents had received at least one dose of vaccine, 61.2% had completed the initial vaccine series and 34.4% had received an additional or booster dose.

Hospitalizations also fell on Wednesday. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 355 COVID-19 patients, 25 fewer than on Tuesday but 22 more than a week earlier. Of those, 45 were in intensive care, up four in a day but down seven over a week.

Northeast region hospitals had 35 COVID-19 patients, five fewer than on Tuesday but six more than a week earlier. Of those, one was in an ICU, the same as on Tuesday and six fewer than a week earlier. In the Fox Valley region, there were 15 COVID-19 patients, down three in a day and two over a week. Three of those were in ICUs, up one over both a day and a week.
