Early Voting Breaking Records Statewide and Locally

As the third week of early voting for Georgia’s 2022 primary election continues, Georgia voters are turning out in record numbers across the state.

The Secretary of State’s office reports that through Sunday, May 15th, over 380,000 Georgians have cast early ballots.

That’s a 217% increase from the same point in the early voting period in the 2018 primary election and a 155% increase from the same point in the early voting period in the 2020 primary election.

Georgia has had a record early voting turnout since the first day of early voting this year, surging to nearly three times the number on the first day of primary voting in 2018 and double that of 2020, and has continued on that path since.

Georgia Secretary of State Raffensperger said Monday that the record early voting turnout is a testament to the security of the voting system and the hard work of our county election officials.

In Franklin County, voting continues to remain brisk at the Board of Elections and Registrations office in Carnesville.  As of Tuesday morning, 851 voters had cast ballots in person and 56 absentee ballots had been returned, according to Elections Supervisor Gina Banister.

And a reminder for all voters in both Franklin and Hart counties.

The time has run out to request an absentee paper ballot.  The deadline to request a paper absentee ballot was last Friday. Also, there is no Saturday early voting this coming weekend.

If you are unable to vote early this week, you will have to wait until next Tuesday to vote at your precinct polling place.
