DURHAM, N.C. — A water main break on Wednesday morning will close a road in northwest Durham for several hours.

Before 3 a.m., crews responded to the water main break on Ninth Street between Englewood Avenue and West Knox Street, near Monuts donut shop and the Trinity Heights neighborhood.

Crews working on repairs said the road would be closed for some time but didn't have an estimate.

Water was gushing down the road, which was completely closed, blocking some homes in the area. Some residents woke up to no water.

A mostly residential street, traffic issues were not reported at 7:30 a.m. A detour was in place.

WRAL News is at the scene working to get more updates.
