Wilmington Police Arrest Two Men on Gun and Drug Charges Following Investigation

WILMINGTON, DE — Two men have been arrested in Wilmington, Delaware, on allegations of gun and drug offenses following an investigation by local police.

Throughout February, members of the Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division had been investigating illegal drug sales in the unit block of West 27th Street. On February 21, at approximately 12:15 p.m., police reportedly observed 21-year-old Ziare Davis-Shelton in the area. Davis-Shelton was taken into custody without incident and was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.

Subsequently, police executed a search warrant in the same block, during which 59-year-old Purnell Davis allegedly fled from a residence on foot. After a brief pursuit, Davis was also taken into custody without incident. Police report recovering .7 grams of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia during the operation.

Davis-Shelton faces several charges, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and possession of a controlled substance. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $55,200 cash-only bail.

Purnell Davis has been charged with resisting arrest. He was also arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution pending further proceedings.
