Each week, publications from the Southern California News Group’s 11 properties (Orange County Register, L.A. Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select the Athletes of the Week for their respective region.

Each athlete is then entered into the overall Southern California Athlete of the Week vote.

Click on the newspaper links below the athlete’s name to read about their performance from last week, and then vote for who you think deserves the top honor.

Readers are allowed to vote multiple times. Voting ends at midnight, but final totals aren’t always immediately reflected due to processing.

Brooklyn Shroyer, Bonita: The junior pitcher had an incredible week, as she led her team to the CIF Southern Section Division 3 championship game. She threw a perfect game in a 5-0, second-round win over Kennedy with 12 strikeouts. She followed with a one-hitter and 12 strikeouts in a 2-1 victory over Sunny Hills in the quarterfinals. And she finished the week with a complete game and 10 strikeouts in a 4-1 win over Temescal Canyon in the semifinals. The Bearcats will play St. Anthony or Tesoro the championship game on Friday or Saturday in Irvine.

Jordan Washington, Serra: Washington won the Division 4 100- (11.55) and 200-meter races (23.68) at the CIF-SS Track and Field Finals to help Serra capture the team championship Saturday at Moorpark High. She was also part of Serra’s winning 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.

Justina Kozan, Santa Margarita: The USC-bound Kozan won the 200-yard freestyle in a meet-record 1 minute, 44.63 seconds, the 100 butterfly in 52.75 and raced on two winning relays, including anchoring the 400 free to a national record, to help lead the Eagles to a third consecutive CIF State title in Fresno. She split a lifetime-best 48.67 in the 400 to bring the Eagles to the wall in 3:14.80.

Naomi Johnson, Roosevelt: Johnson played an integral role in the Mustangs capturing the Division 1 team title at the CIF Southern Section track and field championships. Johnson won individual titles in the 200 meters (23.69 seconds) and the 400 meters (54.44), and she also ran legs on the two relays squads that placed second. Johnson ran the anchor leg in the final race (1,600 relay) of the meet. Roosevelt finished one spot ahead of Long Beach Poly in the relay to win the team title by one point.

Rose Cano, St. Anthony: The senior pitcher gave up five hits, one walk, two earned runs, and had nine strikeouts over seven innings in St. Anthony’s 6-2 win at home against La Quinta in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 quarterfinals. It was the first time the Saints reached the semifinals in Division 3. Cano signed to play college softball at George Washington University in Washington D.C.
