Budget votes took place on Tuesday for Central New York school districts, including the Liverpool School District, where thousands of voters came out to cast their votes on the district's $173,451,163 proposed budget, which is up 3.02% from last year.

"In today's economy, I believe that it's a fair price," Sharon Wilcox said who's been a Liverpool resident for over 30 years.

Central New Yorkers can expect to see inflation rise as the Upstate New York economy continues to recover from the Coronavirus Pandemic. Voters in Liverpool tell CNY Central that they're not letting the higher cost of goods affect their vote.

"Inflation is affecting everything, it's affecting us in all areas. Am I happy about it? No, not really but I'm realistic about it, too. This is just how it is right now," Stephen Szilagyi said, who was a teacher in the Liverpool School District for 30 years.

Other voters explained how the increase in the price of fuel, food, and other consumer goods should not impact someone's vote. Students can't do much about it, so why vote against what the youth of America needs.

"Inflation is inflation. It's always been here since we started living in Liverpool 35 years ago," Henry Wilcox Jr. said.

A teacher in the Liverpool School District claims the district is heading in the right direction and is optimistic about the future, especially for her elementary school students.

"As a Liverpool graduate and resident, and now a first-grade teacher I think it's really important, especially for my six and seven-year-olds who have eleven years left in the district. It's really important for them to have a great future," Silvana Salomone said who graduated from Liverpool High School in 2016.

Most of the voters that CNY Central spoke to on Tuesday say they voted yes for the $173,451,163 proposed budget, however, they feel board members could take more time out of their day to listen to the thoughts and concerns of students, parents, and teachers.

The budget passed by a margin of 1,625 to 522.
