SAN ANGELO — Summer break is a few weeks away and organizations are opening up summer camp registration.

For parents left scratching their heads at how to keep their children happy and occupied this summer, here's a list of San Angelo's summer camps and programs to help bust the summer boredom and get the kids off their screens.

SAMFA Camps

When: June and July

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, 1 Love St., will have summer camps including Concho Clay, River Rat Art, Art Camp, Helping Hands, Artist Workshops and more. Ages and costs range per workshop. For the full schedule, prices and more, visit www.samfa.org/camps

SAISD Athletic Camps

When: all summer

The San Angelo Independent School District will conduct several summer camps for children attending elementary through high school. These camps will include the following sports: baseball, soccer, swimming, tennis, gymnastics, basketball, softball, volleyball and football.

SAISD STEM Kids Camp

When: July 13 or 14, from 8:30 a.m.-3:50 p.m.

The annual summer STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) camp is back. A hands-on opportunity to explore robotics, create their own code, or design in the Makerspace this fun camp is open to all currently enrolled SAISD current 2nd-5th graders. 

Online registration opens Tuesday, May 17 at 8 a.m. and closes Friday, May 20 at 6 p.m. Enrollment is granted on a first-come first-served basis. Parents will be notified of enrollment or waitlist on May 27th.

Angelo State Music Camp

When: June 5-10

Grow your musical and performance skills with the ASU music faculty. This camp is open for students entering the 7th grade through recent high school graduates. Campers are required to have at least one year of experience on an instrument and be able to read music.

Camp activities include rehearsals, sectionals, musicianship class, a faculty recital, carnival and afternoon recreation and social time.

Cost is $425 for students living on campus, $150 for commuters.

Angelo State Athletics Camps

ASU will offer camps throughout the summer for different sports. They range from elementary to high school camps. 

Each sports camp can be accessed by sport on the individual website. For soccer go to angelosoccercamps.com, volleyball at bellevolleyballcamps.com and basketball at bellebasketballcamps.com

Soccer

May 31-June 3 and July 5-8 – Full Day Camp for boys and girls ages 6-15 years old. Cost: $210 (Includes T-Shirt)

July 9-10 – Elite Camp for girls in grades 8-12. Cost: $205 (Includes T-Shirt, all meals & housing). Commuter cost: $180

Volleyball

June 3-4 – All Skills Camps will have two sessions per day. Grades 4-7 camp will be 9 a.m.-noon and Grades 8-12 will be 1-4 p.m. Cost: $115 per camp.

July 12-13 – Varsity Positions Camps for grades 9-12 will be separated by position. Cost: $165 for one camp, $315 for two and $450 for three.

July 29-30 – Team Competition Camp is for Varsity and JV Teams. Cost: $400 per varsity team and $300 per JV team plus a $20 per player participation fee.

Belle Basketball

May 31-June 2 – Fundamentals Camp is for grade 3rd through 12th. Cost: $350 for overnight campers and $300 for commuter camps. 

June 17-19 – Team Camp is for grade 9th through 12th. Cost: $700 per team.

City Summer Day Camp

When: Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 31-August 5 excluding holidays

While at their camp sites, campers will be play various sports and board games, make arts and crafts, and engage in other fun activities. This year there will be air conditioning in the gyms. Cost is $45 non-refundable registration fee, plus first week of camp payment of $65 per child. The camp is for ages 5-12 years old.

Parents can register children at the City Recreation office, 702 S. Chadbourne St., during the weekdays.

Grape Creek ISD Basketball

When: May 31 - June 2

Head Coach David Edgin will be running the annual girls' basketball camp at the Grape Creek High School gym. The first session is from 9-10:30 a.m. for incoming 3rd-5th grade. The second session is from 12:30-2:30 p.m. for incoming 6th-9th graders. Cost of the camp will be $40 per camper, which includes a t-shirt. Make checks payable to David Edgin Each camper will be instructed on the fundamentals of basketball including dribbling, passing and more.

Prep Academy summer classes and camps

When: June 20-Aug. 20

Dance classes and camps will be available at Prep Academy, LLC, 2430 Sherwood Way. All classes, excluding dance teams, are $54 monthly and a $20 registration fee per family. Dancers will experience ballet, tap and jazz dancing in a super fun and encouraging atmosphere. Classes and camps range from ages 6 months old to 18 years old.

Team Chip Martial Arts 

When: June 13-16 for Little Dragon Camp, July 18-21 for Kid's Camp and August 8-11 for Parkour camo.

Team Chip Martial Arts will offer three camps ranging from ages 3-12 years old. No experience is necessary. Camps are $199 each per child. Register online at jotform.com.

Totus Tuus

When: June 20-24

"Totus Tuus is a summer Catholic youth program dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic Faith," according to a news release. The day program is for grade 1-6 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The evening program is for grades 7-12 from 7:30-9:45 p.m. Cost is $15 per child.
