UPDATE:

FOX17 CODE RED Meteorologist Dan Guthrie is tracking what locations have the best potential to be impacted by Wednesday's severe weather threat. We are looking at other warm day with increasing clouds. A few isolated showers will be possible, mainly north of I-40.

The heat continues for the rest of the week with 90s for today, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Friday has the potential to set a new high temperature record.

Isolated to scattered showers return late Saturday, with widespread showers possible on Sunday.

We cool back down to the upper 70s and lower 80s next week.

-----------------------------------------

FOX 17 News is in a Code Red Weather Alert for a small, conditional severe storm threat on Wednesday.

What does “conditional” mean? Chief Meteorologist Katy Morgan says it means we have the severe ingredients, but need the “trigger” for them to pop.

Think of it like baking cookies. We have the ingredients needed to bake a few cookies, but unless someone makes them and puts them in the oven no cookies.

Storms will likely be ongoing in the morning hours northwest of us, near Missouri and Illinois. A few of these storms may stray into southern Kentucky, but generally looking at the threat for severe weather to remain low.

As we get into the afternoon, a few storms may fire up (mainly along and north of I-40) and could turn strong to severe.

Damaging wind and hail will be the primary threats.

The tornado threat remains pretty low. The best chance at a spin up tornado will be in Kentucky.
