TUCSON, AZ —A Tucson man was sentenced to 30 months in prison last week after pleading guilty in federal court to human smuggling, in an incident that also involved a high-speed police chase, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office District of Arizona.

Andrew Ryan Lozinski, 30, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transport illegal aliens while placing in jeopardy the life of any person and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jennifer G. Zipps, officials said.

According to court documents, in Oct 2021, Nogales Police officers saw five suspected undocumented noncitizens get into Lozinski's car. The officers contacted the U.S. Border Patrol, and one of its agents attempted to conduct an immigration traffic stop of the vehicle.

However, Lozinski refused to stop, and he led agents on a high-speed chase that reached speeds of close to 100 mph, according to court documents.

Officials said that during the chase, Lozinski instructed his passengers to get out of the vehicle, but two became entangled in a seatbelt and were dragged a short distance. Both suffered injuries.

Eventually, officers deployed a strike strip to deflate the vehicle's tires, and Lozinksi crashed into a fence on the side of the road, where he was arrested.
