Dog found abandoned in garage still at Ohio shelter after 162 days
A dog found abandoned in a garage was finally adopted after spending dozens of days in the shelter. However, she has since been returned to the shelter and is once again looking for her forever home.Princess has been at the Toledo Humane Society for 162 days. She originally came to the shelter through Toledo's cruelty department after she was found abandoned in a garage.Princess was finally adopted, but according to shelter officials, she was returned to the shelter within a week because the adopters had some unforeseen circumstances come up that had nothing to do with Princess.According to the Toledo Humane Society, 2-and-a-half-year-old Princess has had 11 features across social media but only one family had shown serious interest in her — the family that had to return her to the shelter."Now that she's at the shelter, with the past 5 months spent up for adoption, she can't even get a family to look at her," the Toledo Humane Society wrote on Facebook Tuesday.Shelter staff said Princess is "incredibly sweet and affectionate." They said new situations make her uncomfortable and she's spent the past several months learning to trust again. Because of this, shelter staff believe Princess would be best suited in a home without children. Princess has done well with other dogs in the past, but shelter staff recommends potential adopters do a dog-to-dog at the shelter before finalizing the adoption."Princess NEEDS out of this shelter. She has spent so much of her life going back and forth that she doesn't know what home is and it's certainly not the white walls that seem to enclose her daily here. We aren't joking when we say you can see sadness in her eyes. She longs to have a home where she can rest her head on a comfy bed or in the lap of someone who loves her," the shelter wrote on Facebook.Shelter staff have noticed Princess's mental health declining while she has been at the shelter and noted she'd be better suited in an environment where she can spent time outside for a long period of time and have walks with her owners. To learn more about Princess or the Toledo Humane Society, click here.
