TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Construction on new duplexes in Terre Haute began last year, but now the units are ready to be called home.

Jonah Inc. held a ribbon cutting for its first duplexes Tuesday in Terre Haute. The one-bedroom units are located at 1320 South 12th Street. The duplexes are part of Jonah Inc’s low-income housing program. The organization says that they’ve seen a lot of interest already in the units.

“We’ve had people by here ever since we were under construction,” Reverand Cleytus Malone said. “We’ve had people stop by wondering when we were going to be complete, what they can do to rent one, and this and that. So, as a matter of fact, they are all rented right now.”

The organization says they saw a need for duplexes of this kind in the city.

“They’re economical and effective for families or individuals who are looking for a single bedroom home, this is exactly what they need.”

Jonah Inc. thanked all the partners in the project including Keymark Development, Sanders and Associates, the Terre Haute redevelopment commission, and First Farmers Bank and Trust. The group credits the community and the city for the support they’ve received in bringing this project to fruition.
