Standing 20 ft tall, this giant slingshot in Franklinton has us asking all kinds of questions. What is this? How’d it get there? What does it mean? Luckily, we did some digging + we’re slinging out some answers to these questions.

What is it?

The 20 ft tall, 12 ft wide slingshot is a sculpture from Andrew Lundberg, owner of Lundberg Industrials, a local industrial art designer. Andrew created it for the River and Rich development from CASTO, a local real estate developer. Construction on the project began last year + the slingshot was unveiled to the public last fall in the Lucas Street Plaza in Franklinton.

How’d it get here?

The project was approved by the East Franklinton Review Board last summer as the Lucas Street Plaza plans included a local and eye-grabbing sculpture. After six projects were discussed, the slingshot was chosen as the winner (real David vs. Goliath vibes).

What does it mean?

According to a Facebook announcement about the slingshot last year, the sculpture was set up so it would look like it was just moments away from slinging a rock facing downtown. This serves as a visual reminder of the momentum building between Franklinton and Columbus + a nod to the “mischievous nature that makes us who we are.”

The slingshot also features “1797” on the front right side — this is the year that Franklinton was settled in CBUS.
