TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local non-profit organization has some more funding after the Indiana Department of Environmental Management announced the recipients of their Community Recycling Grant Program.
ReTHink, Inc. was awarded a total of $12,747 in grant funding. According to the IDEM, the funding is intended to create successful, cost-effective programs that demonstrate a positive environmental impact within their area.
“The Community Recycling Grant Program helps to fund recycling and waste-reduction projects at the local level,” said IDEM Commissioner Brian Rockensuess. “These projects will result in environmental improvements for Hoosiers who live and work in communities across Indiana.”
Selected projects must also have shown that they are sustainable and increase waste diversion as a result of their activities. In total $465,068 was awarded to 18 projects.

- City of Jasper, Street Department – $100,000
- City of South Bend – $26,756
- Clark County Recycling District – $10,125
- Dearborn Solid Waste Management District – $17,139
- DePauw University – $22,174
- Indiana State Fair Commission – $100,000
- Indianapolis Zoological Society, Inc. – $25,178
- Miami County Solid Waste Management District – $6,510
- Posey County Solid Waste Management District – $7,337
- reTHink, Inc. – $12,747
- Southeastern Indiana Solid Waste District – $24,247
- Bartholomew Church and School – $6,578
- Town of Mulberry – $3,750

Grants are funded through IDEM’s Solid Waste Management Fund. Funds come from the solid waste management fee (IC 13-20-22-1). The fee consists of $0.50 per ton charge on solid waste for final disposal at Indiana municipal solid waste landfills and incinerators. None of the funding comes from tax dollars.
