Fire pops off at central Illinois popcorn factory

ASSUMPTION, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — Multiple fire departments responded to a fire at a local popcorn factory Monday night.

It happened around 9:48 p.m. at Great Western popcorn factory in Assumption.

The first firefighters to arrive on the scene reported seeing heavy smoke coming from two buildings.

Crews from Moweaqua, Stonington, Taylorville, Pana, Edinburg, Nokomis, Owanaco, and Blue Mound were called in to help.

Units didn't end up leaving the scene until 3:30 a.m. Tuesday
