The Sioux Falls Police Department arrested an 18-year-old and a juvenile while investigating a gunshot call in east-central Sioux Falls on Monday.

Rahsaan Taurean McNeill, 18, of Sioux Falls, was arrested for aggravated assault and discharging of a weapon at an occupied structure, according to police spokesperson Sam Clemens. He was arrested alongside a juvenile.

The call came in around 2:30 p.m. Monday on the 600 block of N. Lewis Avenue. McNeill and the juvenile used a handgun to fire three shots at an apartment, Clemens said.

A 33-year-old woman was inside the apartment that had three bullets strike the inside. A patio door was shattered due to the shots, Clemens said.

The two suspects fled the scene on foot after discharging the handgun. They were caught minutes after police arrived a few blocks away from the scene, Clemens said.

The handgun was also recovered.

No injuries were reported by the woman. She said she did not know the suspects.

Police are still investigating the reasons behind the shooting.

Terry Redlin Elementary School was under a shelter-in-place order for the last 10 minutes of the school day as police looked for the two suspects.
