About 250 homes and businesses in northeast Santa Rosa remained without power Tuesday morning after a driver crashed into a utility pole overnight, according to Pacific Gas & Electric Co.

The crash happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Monday at Wallace and Deer Trail roads, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver took off on foot and was last seen heading north on Wallace, CHP officials said, adding that there was a report that the person possibly had been drinking.

Electrical wires were downed in the crash and firefighters were called to the site.

At the height of the incident more than 550 PG&E customers lost power.

The utility said on its website that workers were aiming to restore power for everyone in the area by 8:15 a.m. Tuesday.

A portion of Wallace near Dear Trail was shut down Monday night while crews worked to clear the downed power lines and fix the downed pole.

No word on any injuries from the crash.
