Eight more COVID-19-related deaths were reported in West Virginia on Tuesday as the state nears 7,000 since the start of the pandemic.

Four of the deaths – a 64-year-old man from Berkeley County, a 58-year-old woman from Lincoln County, a 94-year-old woman from Marion County and a 91-year-old woman from Cabell County – were confirmed deaths while the others were added as a result of data reconciliation, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources said.

The four deaths added due to death certificate reconciliation were: a 69-year-old man from Marion County, a 75-year-old woman from Mineral County, a 63-year-old man from Ohio County and a 78-year-old woman from Logan County. The state’s death toll from the virus is now at 6,903.

Health officials also reported 405 new positive COVID-19 cases for the day. Despite the additions, West Virginia’s active case total dropped from 1,964 to 1,830.

As of Monday, hospitalizations were at 138, including 19 people in intensive care and nine people on ventilators.

The daily positive test rate soared on Tuesday to 20.88%, but the cumulative positive test rate remained unchanged at 8.10%.

Following is a breakdown of active cases by county: Barbour (15), Berkeley (114), Boone (15), Braxton (7), Brooke (16), Cabell (98), Calhoun (2), Clay (6), Doddridge (3), Fayette (52), Gilmer (2), Grant (1), Greenbrier (53), Hampshire (11), Hancock (26), Hardy (14), Harrison (99), Jackson (8), Jefferson (71), Kanawha (236), Lewis (16), Lincoln (16), Logan (45), Marion (92), Marshall (28), Mason (25), McDowell (10), Mercer (55), Mineral (20), Mingo (9), Monongalia (128), Monroe (26), Morgan (9), Nicholas (30), Ohio (63), Pendleton (11), Pleasants (1), Pocahontas (1), Preston (28), Putnam (76), Raleigh (126), Randolph (15), Ritchie (15), Roane (7), Summers (5), Taylor (17), Tucker (4), Tyler (5), Upshur (24), Wayne (34), Webster (1), Wetzel (4), Wirt (2), Wood (22), Wyoming (11).

There were 22 counties in yellow Tuesday on the DHHR’s county alert map, four less than Monday. The yellow counties were: Kanawha, Putnam, Cabell, Mason, Wayne, Lincoln, Logan, Raleigh, Nicholas, Monroe, Ritchie, Tyler, Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Taylor, Barbour, Preston, Hardy, Berkeley, Jefferson and Ohio.

All other counties in the state were green.
