Here's why Delta 8 'marijuana light' is legal — for now

Nashville Tennessean

Good morning, friends, this is Tennessean storytelling columnist Brad Schmitt.

Have you heard of the drug Delta 8? I have to say that I hadn't before today. (Nerd alert!)

Anyway, turns out it's basically marijuana light, and folks are getting (kinda) high by eating Delta 8 gummies or vaping it or, well, however else you might ingest marijuana. The FDA says it has "serious health risks" and has "psychoactive and intoxicating effects."

The Tennessee legislature says, well, we're not going to do anything about regulating it until next session, according to a story by Tennessean statehouse reporter Adam Friedman and health reporter Frank Gluck.

"It was one of those things we ran out of time on," House Majority Leader William Lamberth said during an end of session news conference.

Stay tuned for more on this in the fall. And thank you for reading The Tennessean.
