Newly Crowned U.S. Barista Champion Is Portland's Morgan Eckroth

PORTLAND, OR β€” Next stop, Melbourne! Morgan Eckroth, the Portland-based barista who was crowned the U.S. Barista Champion at the U.S. Coffee Championships in Boston last month, will be headed to Australia in September where they will represent the United States.

Eckroth, who said that they've been in coffee since 2017, is a barista at Keeper in Southeast Portland and also works at Onyx Coffee Lab as their Content Marketing Specialist.

Content marketing is nothing new for Eckforth. More than 5.5 million people follow them on TikTok where they regularly post videos opening the door for people to experience the life of a barista and get glimpses of the world of specialty coffee.

To win the championship, Eckforth had 15 minutes to make an espresso, cappuccino and personally designed signature beverage for each of four judges. The victory was a redemption for Eckforth who had also competed in 2019.

In their biography for the competition, Eckforth said that when they're not working or making videos about working. they can be found "reading and writing fantasy while hanging out with their two cats.
