Some Jackson residents say they are still being overcharged for water
Some residents in Jackson said they are being overcharged on their water bills after the city failed to replace all the water meters.
The city recently hired a company to replace the faulty water meters installed by Siemens.
"They're replacing some meters, not all of them," City Councilman Kenneth Stokes said.
P.J. Williams, who owns multiple houses on Camilla Drive said he's watched it happen first-hand.
"Why would you come on a street and put eight meters, and leave 40 more Siemens meters in the ground and telling us you done changed the meters out?" Williams said.
Residents said the inconsistent meter readings can bring water bill costs to hundreds of dollars.
"These are senior citizens that do not use a lot of water in their place, and they've got $1,700, $1,800 bills on the month," resident Earl Johnson said.
"It has been declared by a court system that those meters do not work. It's been declared that they overcharge people, the citizens, and we want to know what's really going on," Stokes said.
The city announced the water meters would be replaced throughout Jackson but did not give a deadline on when those replacements would be done.
