ONE CAN OR ONE ONE CONTAINER PER FAMILY SO THAT WE’RE ABLE TO TO HELP MORE FAMILIES. BUHET SAYS THEIR SHELVES ARE STOCKED WITH MULTIPLE BABY FORMULA BRANDS, SAFE TO SWITCH BRANDS OR EVEN DO. U YOKNOW, THERE’S SOME FORMULAS WITH ADDED RICE. WHAT YOU DON’T WANT TO DO IS WATER DOWN THE FORMULA BECAUSE THATUT PS THE INFANT AT RISK FOR SOMETHING WE CALL WATER INTOXICATION, WHICH UNFORTUNATELY CAN BE FATALOR F INFANTS. FAYETTEVILLE PEDIATRICIAN DR. MARTY SRKHAEY SAYS THE SAFEST OPTION IS TO BREASTFEED, BUT SHE SAYS THAT’S TNO POSSIBLE FOR ALL WOMEN. I JUST WANT TO HELP. THAT’S ALL I’M HERE FOR IS TO HELP. IT T AKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A KID. AUTUMN WORLEY SAYS SHE TOOK TO FACEBOOK, OFFERING TO DONATE HER BREAST MILK TO MOTHERS SINCE HER YOUNGEST DAUGHTER IS STARTGIN TO WEAN. THERE’S A LOT OF MOMS OUT THERE THAT ARE MESSAGING ME NOW JUST SAYI,NG YES, MY BABY NEEDS HELP. YES, I NEED YOU KNOW, I’LL EITHER GIVE ETH BAGS TO PROVIDE FOR THE PUMP, FOR ETH MILK IN DIRE SITUATIONS AND HAVE TO CALL TO TO BEND THE RULES A LITTLE BIT, JUST AS WE’RE HOPING THAT THE FDA’S GOING TO DO AND START IMPORTGIN SOME FORMULA. AND THAT MEETS OUR STANDARDS. DAN DR. SHARKEY DOES RECOMMEND IF YOU ARE GOING TO GET BREAST MILK THROUGH SOMEONE ELSE, IT'’ BEST TO TGE IT FROM SOMEONE YOU TRUST OR THROUGH A DONOR BREAST MILK BANK BECAEUS THERE IT CAN BE TESTED AND SCREENED FOR ANY VIRUSES. Fayetteville food pantry sees over double demand for baby formula
A Fayetteville food pantry told 40/29 News they are seeing over double the demand for baby formula as a shortage continues across the country.Life Source in Fayetteville said they typically see 10 to 20 families in need of baby formula during the month. However, in just the last two weeks, the director said they’ve seen up to 40 moms in need of baby formula.“We have a lot of families that are just looking for help,” Jimmie Conduff, Life Source International Inc., said. Conduff said he’s nervous the formula on their shelves is going to run out soon. “Realistically, we are just able to give out one can or one container to family so we can help more families,” Conduff said. However, he said their shelves are stocked with multiple baby formula brands.“It is safe to switch brands, or some formulas have extra rice. What you don’t want to do is water down the formula because that puts the infant at risk for water intoxication which can be fatal for infants,” Dr. Marti Sharkey, a Fayetteville pediatrician, said. “I just want to help ... it takes a village to raise a kid. Not everyone has that village and I want to make sure I am doing my part in helping other mommas,” Autumn Starr Worley, from Winslow, said. Worley said she took to Facebook offering to donate her breast milk to mothers since her youngest daughter is starting to wean. “There are a lot of mothers messaging me now that are saying yes I need help, yes I would meet you I would even give the bags to provide for the milk,” Worley said. “Dire situations sometimes call to bend the rules a little bit just as we are hoping that the FDA is going to import some baby formula that meets our standards.”Sharkey does recommend if you’re going to get breast milk through someone else to go through someone you trust or a donor breast milk bank – as the breast milk can be screened for any viruses. Meanwhile, a House oversight committee said they will investigate four of the largest manufacturers of baby formula nationwide.The baby formula shortage is not expected to be over for weeks.
