Construction begins on long-awaited Kimpton Hotel in downtown Reno

RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Developer CAI Investments broke ground on northern Nevada's first Kimpton Hotel in downtown Reno on Friday. The boutique hotel will be located right along the Truckee River when construction is finished in 2024.

CAI Investments said it's the region's 'first luxury, non-smoking and non-gaming hotel in over 20 years.'

The project, which is expected to bring about 270 hotel rooms and 60 or so condominiums, was initially slated to begin construction in 2020, but developers said the COVID-19 pandemic and legal roadblocks delayed the project.

Developers are benefiting from Mayor Hillary Schieve's '1,000 Homes in 120 Days' initiative. CAI Investments is able to defer sewer connection and traffic impact fees because the project includes condominium units.
