New ‘urban lifestyle’ apartments are on the way in Arlington’s entertainment district

Rental units and retail would be part of the Texas Live mixed-use project.

Developers building an entertainment district around Arlington’s Globe Life Field are planning to add an apartment project.

Maryland-based developer The Cordish Cos. has teamed up with the Texas Rangers on a $250 million mixed-use project called Texas Live surrounding the stadium.

The Texas Live project — the first sections of which are already open — is planned to include 200,000 square feet of restaurants, retail and entertainment venues, meeting and convention space, and an outdoor event pavilion.

The Cordish Cos. plans to start construction in the fall on the almost 300-unit, five-story apartment and retail building called One Rangers Way in the project on Nolan Ryan Expressway south of Interstate 30.

“The construction of One Rangers Way will bring a new dimension to the ongoing development in the Arlington Entertainment District,” said Ray Davis, Texas Rangers managing partner and majority owner, in a statement. “This area is becoming a nationally renowned sports and entertainment destination with world-class facilities that have already been completed and several other projects that are well underway.”

The $70 million, 532,459-square-foot project will open in 2024, according to planning documents filed with the state.

“We remain committed to delivering a best-in-class, mixed-use development in the Entertainment District that will benefit the Arlington community and be a national draw for tourism for decades to come,” Blake Cordish, principal of The Cordish Cos., said in a statement.

Maryland-based architect Hord Coplan Macht designed the project.

Developer Cordish says the project “will offer residents an urban lifestyle in the heart of Arlington’s Entertainment District. Additionally, the building will feature new retail space and a new public garage.”

“The opening of Texas Live! in 2018, in partnership between the Rangers and Cordish, spurred incredible momentum for additional investment, including the opening of the Live! by Loews hotel in 2019, in partnership between the Rangers, Cordish and Loews Hotels & Co.; the Rangers’ new Globe Life Field in 2020; the forthcoming Loews Arlington Hotel & Convention Center, which broke ground in October 2021; and the National Medal of Honor Museum, which broke ground March 25,” a Cordish representative said in an email.

In October, the city of Arlington and Lowes Hotels & Co. broke ground on a $550 million Lowes Arlington Hotel and Convention Center as part of the growing entertainment district.

The convention hotel is set to open in 2024.
