Get ready for a standoff at the smoker!

This week's Just 4 Fun is all about finding the best pit master in El Paso!

On Sunday, May 15, head to the east side for Grill Zaddy's first Grill Master Smoke Off!

The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Grand Terrace Events Center, located at 12798 Edgemere Blvd, Suite D.

Three prominent pitmasters from around the Borderland will face off for the Grill Zaddy title. They'll each smoke their own brisket, which will be judged by members of Claude's Sauce, a sauce company that's sold worldwide and based here in El Paso. The winner gets bragging rights and a huge Grill Zaddy championship belt.

The Grill Zaddy will be crowned around 5 p.m.

In addition to the smoke off championship, there will be a party the entire community is invited to attend!

Grill Zaddy's founder, Rene Botello said the event will have live music, food trucks, local vendors, a full bar and several raffles. The big prize will be a grill. All money raised through raffles will be donated to the West Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. The event itself is free!

Botello said Grill Zaddy Grill Club and Supply is a new grill club here in the Borderland.

He explained the club was started as more of a pandemic project. During the pandemic, Botello found himself at the grill nearly every day trying to improve his skills.

"That kind of became something that I was like, "Hey, I bet there are other people like that." So, long story short, that kinda turned into let's start a grill club here in El Paso to teach each other techniques and ways to grill," he said.

Botello encourages anyone who wants to join Grill Zaddy to visit their Facbook page. Anyone is welcome!

Any backyard barbecue-er looking for their chance to compete should keep their eyes out for Grill Zaddy's next event. It'll happen this fall, and will cater to your average grill master. Stay tuned!
