Oh, snap! It's asparagus-picking time and, owner of that clever play-on-words, it's also Bishop's 151st year anniversary celebration May 21.

GUILFORD, CT — Sarah Bishop DellaVentura is the sixth generation of Bishops at the family's 19th century orchard, perhaps more popular now than ever.

"With roots running as deep as 1871, Bishop’s Orchards is inviting guests to help celebrate surpassing 150 years in business," Bishop DellaVentura said in a news release.

The 'Bishop's Orchards 150th Plus One Celebration' is set for May 21, starting at noon, at the Little Red Bar[n], 1355 Boston Post Road, in Guilford.

“This celebration is really a thank you to the community for allowing us to be part of their lives for more than 150 years,” said Bishop DellaVentura. “As a long-standing family business in our community since 1871, we feel this milestone deserves a party for everyone who supported Bishop’s Orchards along the way.”

Free and open to the public, it will feature attractions for both adults, children, and families. Early arriving guests will receive complimentary gifts, while supplies least. The day will begin with an opening ceremony featuring a legislative proclamation at 1 p.m. Throughout the day, a slate of events will include:

“We are extremely proud of this milestone,” said Bishop DellaVentura. “Most family businesses don't make it beyond the 3rd generation, so to have the 6th generation now running the business is exceptional, heartwarming and rewarding. It has taken hard-work, dedication and a love for what we do to make our family business thrive generation to generation. We are honored to be a pillar in our community and to continue to support the community who supports us.”

The 150+1 anniversary celebration is free, open to the public, with ample parking for all who attend. For more information, visit Bishop’s Orchards website.
