She encountered two or three bears around 4:30 p.m. outside her house on Gorney Road, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

The bear injured her arm and butt before a neighbor scared the bears off with his car horn.

She was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and was able to be released later that day.

New Jersey State Police said the bear charged after the woman, though the DEP is still investigating and could not confirm if this was the case.

The DEP estimated the bear weighed between 150 and 200 pounds and was around the age of one or two.

New Jersey Fish and Wildlife will attempt to trap the bear. If the bear is caught and officials are able to confirm it was responsible for the attack, it will be euthanized.
