A security guard was taken to the hospital after being wounded in a shootout at a marijuana dispensary in the Lindbergh neighborhood in North Long Beach early Sunday morning, according to police.

Just past 3:30 a.m., officers arrived at 5574 Atlantic Ave. and found a security guard suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body, police said.

Police said the victim stated he was working as a security guard when two men approached the business after exiting a vehicle. After a brief exchange of words, both the security guard and one of the men fired their guns at each other, and the security guard was hit as a result, police said.

The men fled in a vehicle driven by a third suspect before officers arrived, police said.

No other injuries were reported, and police don’t have additional suspect information. The investigation of this shooting remains ongoing, police said.

Editor’s note: This report was updated to reflect a correction from police that the security guard was a man, not a woman.
