More than $500,000 in sponsorships will flow from the Port of Long Beach to 138 community events and programs in the next year.

The latest round of awards is part of the port’s ongoing community sponsorship program. One million dollars were set aside in the current budget for the program.

“As many nonprofit organizations reestablish themselves after the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are happy to offer support through our sponsorship program,” Harbor Commission President Steven Neal said in a release.

This program began in 2007 and has distributed $10.5 million to date. Groups receive sponsorships in exchange for spreading awareness of the port and its programs.

There also is an environmental mitigation grant program funded by the port. Those grants are for projects that help improve the environment or respond to port impacts.

The port accepts applications for sponsorships twice a year — in March and September. For more, go to polb.com/community/sponsorships.
