COWDEN, Ill. — Host Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City put a stop to Red Hill’s unbeaten start to its girls basketball season, rolling to a 67-26 victory Friday in the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday.
Tess Heath scored 10 points and Maci Scherer eight for the Lady Salukis, who couldn’t contain Cowden-Herrick’s offense. Gracie Heckert poured in 24 points for the hosts, and Lani Morrison added 15 for the Bobcats.
Cowden-Herrick posted quarter-stop leads of 22-11, 39-16 and 58-22.
Red Hill (3-2) also lost Friday’s nightcap game with Cumberland, but details of the game were not reported. The Salukis play in the fifth-place game of the tournament at 12:30 p.m. (CST) today against Brownstown/St. Elmo.
Siewers leads swim Spartans in openerTERRE HAUTE — Jacob Siewers won two events as South Knox’s boys swim team started its season Tuesday in a triangular meet at Terre Haute North.
Siewers snagged his victories in the 50-yard freestyle, 22.25; and 100 freestyle, 49.84.
No scores were available, but Brownsburg won the meet with the Spartans settling for third.
Chase Staggs had the next-best finish for South Knox, grabbing third in the 50 freestyle. Aaron Brown’s best finish for the Spartans was fifth in the 50 freestyle, and Caleb Cork was sixth in the 100 breaststroke.
Siewers, Staggs, Brown and Cork placed third in the 400 freestyle relay and fifth in the 200 freestyle relay.
